Successful Pilot

Following a successful pilot programme in April 2011, Bromley Mind and Active Life Fitness & Injury Consultants) will be resuming their community wellbeing course on healthy lifestyle and physical & mental self-awareness, called Mind Your Own Body (a programme of Active Life Community Wellbeing brand) to be run at the Mottingham Community & Learning Shop from 18th April until 6th June 2012.

The course aims to facilitate Bromley residents who have experienced mental health difficulties through structured physical activities and learning about the links between healthy lifestyles and positive mental wellbeing.

As facilitators of the course, have adopted an ‘integrative approach’ and recognise exercise as being an effective treatment for people with mental health problems, in terms of boosting self-esteem levels and reducing anxiety levels.

Nathan Rendall, Community Wellbeing Services Manager of Bromley Mind says, “this is a very exciting joint venture and an ideal opportunity for participants to make theoretical and practical connections with their physical selves and positive mental health”.

Funding for the course has come from Personal and Community Development Learning Commission, with the sessions being free for service users of Bromley Mind.
